Brexit and the GDPR

Just in case any school colleagues or governors are wondering if there are any immediate data protection implications for schools, as a result of the UK having left the EU and being in a Brexit transition period; the short answer is no.

During this transition period, which runs until the end of December 2020, it is business as usual for data protection.  The GDPR continues to apply and the ICO continues to be our supervisory authority.

At the end of the transition period, the GDPR will be brought into UK law as the ‘UK GDPR’ to sit alongside the UK’s Data Protection Act 2018.  The ICO will remain our supervisory body in relation to data protection.

If you want to discuss this further, or any other data protection issue or query, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the contact tab on my website, I would be pleased to support you.
